Inkslinger team8/5/2023 ![]() We all somehow decided that I should continue on anyway. I was, to say the least, shocked and surprised as I didn't have any experience with anything about Loss Control (other than not losing my iPhone). Much to everybody’s chagrin and laughter, they kindly informed me that this interview was for a Loss Control Consultant. Much to my surprise, when I got to the interview and started to give my pitch of who I was and why they should take an interest in me, one of the people stopped me and said, “Do you think that you're here for a marketing position?” I felt totally confident that I would ace the interview and that they would be impressed with me. I had originally thought that I was going in for a marketing position, using my same skills that I had done for years and years. That was until I had a very funny encounter.Īt a small insurance company, my resume ended up being sent to the wrong department. My slight hope for a big career change would have to settle for a simple job change. Several other advertising companies reached out for interviews. Like most who hit up the workforce after the age of forty, I was a little unsure about what opportunities I’d even be given.īut I continued to push myself out of my comfort zone and sent resumes to all kinds of job listings. Out of curiosity, I sent it off to some job openings that had nothing to do with advertising. With a little help from my favorite people, I was able to get my resume completed and sent off. That in itself was a daunting task - learning how to update my resume to the current standards of how it should be written these days. I got to working on my resume, which I had not done in ages. I decided I needed to make a change and find an advertising position at a new company. Sometimes you get so caught up in what you're doing that it's hard for you to see it, even though people around you definitely can see it. I had lost some of my pizazz and zing, which was not only affecting me at work, but also my personal life. It took not only myself to acknowledge this, but others around me pointed it out too. It was at that point that I found myself extremely unhappy with where I was in my life. But I hadn't really pushed myself into anything new for years. Every once in a while, yes, I would get excited about certain projects and certain clients. I had pretty much been on that autopilot for a long time - going into the office and not really being challenged on a day-to-day basis. For me, I experienced this opportunity in 2019 when I had reached kind of a breaking point with my job in advertising.
